Executive Summary
Covid-19 economic repercussions contributed to the already dire business environment in Sudan. Sudan is ranked 171 among 190 economies in the ease of doing business, according
to the latest World Bank annual ratings. Lockdowns and other preventive measures have presented new challenges, uncertainties and opportunities to the ones that are already faced by MSMEs and forced many of them to change the way they are doing business. The first covid-19 case in Sudan was discovered on the 13th March in the capital city of Khartoum.
Subsequent cases were reported from the rest of the states. The total number of confirmed cases of has surpassed the 10,000 mark, most of which is in Khartoum. This report, developed by 249 startups using data collected through surveys which included 135 MSMEs “most of them from Khartoum state and aims to define the main challenges faced by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as a result of the distortions caused by the COVID-19, identify the extent of the impact of Covid-19 on Sudan MSMEs, their response and what can be taken to alleviate the financial stress on MSMEs.
